The Jet&Prop Open, taking place from Thursday to Sunday, July 25–28, 2026, will bring domestic and international model aircraft enthusiasts to Jämi. On the main days of the event, Friday and Saturday, visitors can see impressive model aircraft and watch flying demonstrations, weather permitting. The Jämi Arena will feature sales booths from industry vendors. The event’s own Turbulence Café will also be open in the Arena. Admission to the event is free for the public.
Jämin Riippuliitäjät, the local hang gliding association, is organizing the Finnish Hang Gliding Championships in Jämi from July 1–9, 2026. You can watch the pilots’ takeoffs and landings in person in Jämi. Tows from the field begin between approximately 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the last competitor usually lands by 8 p.m. You can also follow the competition via a live stream on the organizer’s website.
Tampereen Kevytilmailukerho, the local paragliding association, is organizing the Paragliding Cup competition in Jämi from July 17–19, 2026. As with hang gliding competitions, you can watch the pilots’ takeoffs and landings in person at the Jämi site. Tows from the field begin between approximately 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the last competitor usually lands by 8 p.m. The competition is the second round of the 2026 Paragliding League’s cross-country series.
The Finnish Parachuting Championships will be held in Jämi in several different competition categories and divisions at the end of July and beginning of August, from July 29 to August 1 (August 2), 2026. The local club’s, Tampereen Laskuvarjokerho, activity week will also take place during the same week, so there will be plenty of spectacular skydiving action in the skies throughout the last week of July.
One of the highlight of Jämi’s aviation summer will be the European Aerobatic Championships, held from August 4–8, 2026.
The aircraft must be modeled after World War I and World War II fighter planes. The AirCombat competition features classes for aircraft types from both world wars. The wingspan of the model aircraft is approximately 1 m. A 12/15 m long streamer made of crepe paper is attached to the tail of the aircraft, and the objective is to cut the opponent’s streamer.
As always during the summer, Jämi is a hive of activity across nearly all areas of recreational aviation. Various clubs spend the summer at Jämi, and visiting stars also stop by Jämi in their own aircraft. In addition to the clubs mentioned earlier, a gliding club Tampereen Ilmailuyhdistys and the model aircraft club Jämin Lennokkiharrastajat are very active at Jämi.
