The Jämi region, the residents of the surrounding areas, and the regional economy will benefit from more sustainably organised events, which will enable the organisation of events in Jämi even in the future. You should communicate actively about responsible choices and encourage event visitors to act as responsibly as possible.

You can read more tips on how to organise more sustainable events on, for example, Sitra’s website.

Social sustainability

  • When organising an event, remember to ensure the safety, equality and non-discrimination of all visitors and staff members.
  • Communicate as comprehensively and accessibly as possible about the event through various channels and at all stages of the event.
  • Remember to take into account the permanent local residents, residents holidaying in the area and other users of the area at all stages of the event, and communicate actively about the event to local stakeholders.
  • Employ local residents in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of the event.

Ecological sustainability

  • Carry out the event in such a way that the environmental values of the area are not degraded. Metsähallitus and the Jämi Foundation, which grant permits for the use of the areas, issue guidelines to prevent damage to the areas.
  • Arrange shared transport to the event, for example using local charter companies.
  • Guide visitors to move in areas where the risk of environmental degradation is lowest. Metsähallitus and the Jämi Foundation provide instructions for the guidance of visitors.
  • Prevent the generation of waste in advance. Ensure that there are enough waste collection points in the area and that waste is sorted correctly.
  • Only make the essential purchases and make sure that purchases, such as those of materials, energy, food and drinks are as environmentally friendly as possible.
  • Arrange a possibility for visitors to fill their own water bottles.
  • Have a carbon footprint calculation prepared for the event and compensate the carbon dioxide emissions from the event.
  • Acquire an environmental certificate for your event.

Economic sustainability

  • Favour local service providers and suppliers in making purchases, to enable your event to support the regional economy as efficiently as possible.
  • Channel a part of the proceeds from the event to a charity in line with the theme of the event, for example to help protect nature in the area or to benefit local residents.
