Ridge views and rural landscapes
The hiking trails in Jämi are well suited for day trips. The Harjuluontopolku nature trail and Koivistonkierros trail lead to the highest point and deepest spot of Hämeenkangas area, while the route at Vaarinnevankeidas mire takes to pieces of environmental art and the mire nature. The trails at Niiniharju and at the famous springs are accessible.
The Geobike Hämeenkangas trail offers easy and enjoyable mountain biking on needle tracks. Along the Pirkan ura route you can cycle further away to Kuninkaanlähde and Niinisalo or to Vatulanharju in Ikaalinen and Ulvaanharju in Hämeenkyrö. Cyclists who prefer small roads in rural landscapes are delighted by the Geopark routes and the Lake Trails bike touring routes.
There are plenty of rest stops along the routes in Hämeenkangas. Eat a snack or spend the night in a lean-to or in a hut. Some of the rest stops are accessible. Many of them have dry toilets. Firewood is available for chopping in the woodsheds. Always remember to check the The Finnish Meteorological Institute’s website before lighting a fire to make sure there is no forest fire warning.

Airplanes, parachutes and gliders are crucial part of the sky above Jämi. Jämi, which just celebrates its 90th anniversary, is Finland’s most versatile centre for recreational aviation. Jämi’s aviation activities began in 1935, when a gliding school was founded in Jämi. In good weather, a wide range of aviation activities and events are going on in Jämi. In Jämi, anyone can get up to the sky in a tandem parachute or a glider.
Get out on the water or go for a swim
Jämijärvi with its islands is the jewel of the municipality. The lake offers good fishing opportunities that attract active fishers from far and wide. Anyone can easily try fishing from the shore with a simple fishing rod. You can also enjoy the lake and the meandering river in the forest by paddling a rented canoe or SUP board.
In Mielahti, in the vicinity of the Hämeenkangas ridge, is a lovely, naturally sandy beach. Another very popular beach is a swimming pond next to the Perhepuisto cottage village, where the hot sand is a great place to spend a summer’s day. In the centre of Jämijärvi, you can swim at the Urheilukenttä beach.
